Acupuncture Aid for Infertility and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

A 2014 study has concluded that women who were not treated with infertility medications, only acupuncture, had essentially the same conceiving success rate as women on infertility treatments. Judging from these studies, acupuncture seemingly has the potential to be just as healing and useful infertility treatments in most cases.

A common misconception about acupuncture is that it only relieves pain. However, this ancient healing method can actually be used to treat nausea/vomiting, chemotherapy side effects, morning sickness, hypertension (high blood pressure), allergies, depression, as well as infertility.

The physical process of acupuncture induces endorphins, which influences gonadotropin, thereby positively stimulating the female menstrual cycle. Acupuncture in support of infertility aid has become a rather niche profession for a minority of acupuncturists. Many professionals see an excellent and effective opportunity to enter the reproductive health field after initially practicing acupuncture.

Another study in 2008 tested if acupuncture was an effective assistant treatment when coupled with vitro fertilization. The conclusions were clear; acupuncture had increased the probability of clinical pregnancy by 65% compared to control groups without acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture has also been successful in treating Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). This disease impacts pelvic organs which can lead to infertility. It then makes sense that if PID can be combated with acupuncture, infertility can be dealt with as well. A study of PID which failed to respond to antibiotic treatments saw an 88.4% improvement after acupuncture and Chinese herb treatments.

Some people find acupuncture’s gynecological success hard to believe, but infertility issues are just a very small percentage of its benefits. Acupuncture, along with traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for generations for over 200 different symptoms. Over the years, it has reached such immense recognition and success that it has become a very common medical practice all over the world. It requires 3-4 graduate programs as well as over 2000 internship hours to be certified to practice, and every session and treatment varies based on the individual. Not everyone has the same acupuncture relief points or symptoms. Thus, acupuncturists need an adequate amount of education and experience to practice safely, just like any other medical professional.

Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice that only in recent decades has been seen as the highly effective treatment it truly is.
